Top-notch dog pack
Excellent capacity and super comfortable for my dog on long backcountry excursions.
The Palisades Pack puts the deepest of backcountry within reach for you and your dog. Our highest-volume pack, it's designed for multi-day treks with roomy saddlebags that host a cross-load compression system for stable, comfortable gear carry. The saddlebags attach securely to a breathable harness chassis, and can be removed at camp to lighten the load for side-excursions. Multiple pockets and an external daisy chain store and organize your dog's trekking necessities like a sleeping system, food, and even two collapsible hydration bladders that come with the pack. It’s recommended that your dog carry no more than 25% of their body weight, including pack weight and its contents. If your dog is new to dog packs, start with a light load and work up to a heavier load as your dog gets used to wearing the pack. What's New: The Palisades has a long history in the Ruffwear pack lineup, and this season's updates were inspired by customer feedback. More breathability and flexibility with a perforated, molded foam chassis; improved fade-resistance with new materials; updated "flopper stopper" system for easier use when stabilizing saddlebags, new stash pocket configuration. Excellent capacity and super comfortable for my dog on long backcountry excursions.
This pack is truly built for the backcountry. The 24L capacity in the Large/XLarge means my lab can carry a significant portion of our supplies, including two days of food and her own water bladders. The construction is incredibly robust, made for tough conditions. I love that I can detach the bags at our campsite for her to explore freely without the full load. It has genuinely enhanced our multi-day treks.
The durability of this pack is impressive. My dog is rough on gear, but the ripstop nylon is holding up beautifully. The Red Sumac color still looks vibrant after many washes and adventures.
I got the Medium for my husky, and while the quality is good, the fit around his chest was a bit awkward for him. It seemed to restrict his movement slightly on longer climbs. The removable saddlebags are clever, but the overall bulk felt a bit much for his build.
My border collie uses this on all our long trips. The Red Sumac color is nice, and it's easy to pack everything he needs. The stable carry means no shifting, even over challenging terrain.
