Works but needs frequent re-soaking
Keeps my dog cool, but I have to re-wet it often on really hot or dry days.
When shade is low and the mercury is high, dogs can count on the Swamp Cooler™ Vest to help keep the adventure going. Strategic material choices and design offer solutions for the challenges that hot-weather exploring presents. The light-colored fabric reflects solar radiation, while wetting the vest activates our Swamp Cooler™ Tech for that refreshing, just-stepped-out-of-a-lake feeling also known as evaporative cooling. Just give it a soak, put it on your dog, and go. When it dries, re-soak it to recharge it. The Swamp Cooler™ Vest includes side-release buckles for easy on/off and a leash portal so it can be worn over a harness – topping off the essential features to make it our highest-coverage cooling option in the Swamp Cooler™ Collection . Keeps my dog cool, but I have to re-wet it often on really hot or dry days.
I bought this in a Medium for my Australian Shepherd, whose measurements fit the chart, but it was surprisingly restrictive around his front legs, despite being loose in other areas. After only a few uses, some of the stitching on the mesh started to come undone near the buckle, which is frustrating for the brand's reputation. It just didn't hold up to regular wear, and the fit was awkward for him, causing some rubbing. Not what I expected for quality.
My greyhound gets hot so easily, and summer walks used to be a real struggle. This cooling vest, in size Small, has been absolutely transformative. The evaporative cooling works wonders, and the vest is lightweight enough not to bother her. It fits easily over her harness, and the side buckles make it quick to put on and take off. We can now enjoy our usual routes without worrying about her overheating, which is a huge relief for both of us.
The cooling works, and my bulldog seems happier wearing it on warmer days. We got a Large, and while it fits his chest, it's a bit long on his back, almost covering his tail. It's functional, but not a perfect tailored fit.
I had high hopes for this vest for my Australian Shepherd, but it just doesn't hold water well in dry heat. We'd soak it thoroughly before walks, and within 20-30 minutes, it felt almost completely dry. This meant it wasn't providing any noticeable cooling for the majority of our walk. For the effort of constantly re-wetting, it's not practical for longer outdoor activities.
