Must-have for ma la
Excellent numbing spice and incredible aromatic profile, truly authentic.
Our Tribute Peppers are grown in Qingxi village. The small village produces a variety called gongjiao (Tribute Pepper), so prized for its many uses that it was offered in tribute to the emperor. It is excruciatingly hand-picked to preserve its delicate oils. Thrown whole into long braises and stews or roasted and ground to top iconic dishes like mapo tofu and twice-cooked pork, just-harvested gongjiao electrifies dishes with the signature Sichuan numbing spice and a heady citrus bouquet.

Excellent numbing spice and incredible aromatic profile, truly authentic.
If you're chasing that authentic Sichuan numbing sensation, these are the peppers to get. The hand-picked quality shines through; you can really taste the freshness and the complex floral and citrus notes. Perfect for mapo tofu or just tossing into a stir-fry for an incredible kick. My husband, who loves spicy food, absolutely raves about these when I cook with them.
The numbing spice and citrus aroma are definitely present and authentic. It adds a wonderful layer to my homemade Mapo Tofu. The only reason it's not five stars is that I wish the package contained a little more.
The flavor profile is definitely unique and the numbing sensation is present, but the quantity for the price feels a bit low. I used these for a couple of braises and already feel like I'm running out. It works well in stews, adding a nice complex note, but for regular use, it might get expensive quickly.
These peppers were not as potent in terms of numbing spice as I generally prefer. They have a decent aroma, but I had to use a lot more to get a noticeable effect in my mapo tofu. It works but requires heavy handed application.
