Strong scent
The eggy aroma is quite potent and takes some getting used to for someone not familiar with it.
Black Mineral Salt (commonly called kala namak) is a classic ingredient in many South Asian dishes and is used in the practice of Ayurveda. The salt is mined in the Himalayas and then fired in a kiln at extremely high temperatures, hot enough to melt the salt and give it a scorched black color. The heat also changes the chemical composition, bringing out its beloved (and infamous) savory, tart and eggy aroma and flavor. Use instead of table salt in any dish to add depth and complexity. This salt does not supply iodide, a necessary nutrient.

High-quality black mineral salt with a very distinctive and pleasant savory taste.
I've been looking for an authentic kala namak for ages, and this one delivers. It has that distinctive sulfurous, savory, and slightly tart flavor that brings so much character to dishes. It's become a staple in my kitchen for Ayurvedic cooking and giving a surprising kick to roasted vegetables. The glass jar keeps it fresh.
This salt really transformed my daal recipe, adding an incredible depth. The smoky, sulfuric notes are just what I was looking for to enhance my South Asian cooking.
The eggy flavor in this mineral salt is absolutely perfect for my tofu scrambles.
