About this item
This black tea is organically farmed on Chota Tingrai, an estate in the Tinsukia region of Assam that is one of the first tea estates to be owned and operated by an Indian family in independent India. S ituated in the fertile valley of Brahmaputra, a major river that connects India, Tibet and Bangladesh, the Chota Tingrai estate has found great success in organic tea management and focuses on improving soil fertility.
CTC tea — named after a processing method known as crush, tear, curl — yields a stiff, medium-strength cup that holds up beautifully to milk and spices. It is the tea of choice for the millions of cups of chai made every day on the subcontinent.

Too strong for me

I generally prefer lighter teas, and this one was just too overwhelming. Even with a short steeping time, the robustness was just too much for my taste. It might be good for someone who really likes strong black tea, but it wasn't for me.

My new daily tea

I've been looking for a consistent, strong black tea for my morning routine, and this Chota Tingrai delivers. The malty notes are really prominent, and it pairs perfectly with a splash of milk. I used to buy a different brand, but this one has a deeper, richer flavor that truly stands out. The Chef 150g Tin is great value and keeps me stocked for a while.

This is a fantastic black tea, perfect for someone who appreciates a bold, malty cup. It has a depth of flavor that many other teas lack. I enjoy it plain, but it really shines with a little bit of milk.

My go-to black tea

This tea has a fantastic malty profile that holds up beautifully to a splash of cream. I keep the Everyday 33g Tin at work for a consistent afternoon pick-me-up. It's truly a satisfying cup every time.

Good for chai, but strong
Kai S. · 2026-10-14 · Verified purchase
This black tea is definitely robust. I bought the Everyday 33g Tin for making chai at home, and it holds up well to milk and spices, just as described. The flavor is very malty and strong, almost a bit too intense if you're not adding a lot of other things to it. If you prefer a lighter tea, you might want to use less than recommended or steep for a shorter time.
